[edit] Story

On a normal tour of duty, three United States Army soldiers and their new medic find themselves under attack by NVA and VC forces during the Tet Offensive of 1968. They end up cut off from friendly forces, in the middle of the jungle, ambushed numerous times, and eventually fight their way across a vast expanse of the country to find friendly forces only to get lost again. The story begins with a young medic school graduate Harold Kahler who is sent to fight in Vietnam and help the South Vietnamese fight against communists from North Vietnam and the South Vietnamese rebels, the Viet Cong. Two soldiers from his squad, Bruce 'Junior' Lesh and Will 'Hoss' Shafer do not appreciate his skill. The Sergeant, however, Frank 'Ragman' Wier, does. The soldiers arrive at Ghost Town, the base for the Screaming Eagles. Here is where Harold is tagged "Cherry" and receives little training from fellow soldiers. Viet Cong attack the base. But, with help from soldier Porkchop, Harold is able to fight them off. Whilst at Ghost Town, Harold overhears soldiers saying that, with the help of Hoss, they will frag their Lieutenant.Ghost Town is then attacked by the VC supported by T-34s and the squad must fight their way back into the inner compound to support the Colonel. The attack ends when the squad destroys the trenches leading into the compound and destroys the VC T-34. What follows is a Search and Destroy mission where a number of U.S. Soldiers are killed and the squad must find their dog tags and meet up with Lt. Jefferson. Jefferson is killed and the squad head for the landing zone where the Medivac is shot down and the squad must escape napalm. Eventually they meet the Chief and his patrol boat and must fight through Charlie's point. The squad then have to rescue a statue and civilians for the Montengard militia who have killed the Chief and exchange the squads help for a Radio The squad are picked up and taken to the 1st Air Cav base and must assist Major Wallace in repulsing the NVA attack. Wallace and the squad are captured and sent to play Russian roulette. Wallace is killed and Kahler and Wier escape and free the squad. After escaping the camp they help the Australian SAS destroy a VC tunnel system before being evacuated to Hue. The Squad must fight through Hue and support the 1st Marine Division in order to get to the helipad to cross the river and join the 101st in capturing the citadel. The final mission is the squad assaulting the Citadel and killing the NVA command before finally linking up with the surviving 101st soldiers. Eventually the war is over for the members of Ragman's squad. Junior joins the Black Panther Party only to be shot by the FBI. Hoss continues to fight, this time in the Cambodia and the Laos. Ragman divorces his wife and lives in the Colorado Rockies with his dog. Finally Harold, previously known as "Cherry" then "Doc", marries, creates a family and becomes a doctor. The game ends with Harold looking at Vietnam, with the narration of his voice saying "It don't mean a thing".
